David Wulfe has dealt with a bad marriage and had to wade through years of denial in order to care for his ailing wife. Depression takes its toll and he comes home to find Gwyneth slumped over her computer keyboard dead from an overdose of prescription medications. Not only had she killed herself, but gassed all their family pets. Her suicide note had blamed him for all their deaths. Fighting to overcome his grief, he loses his job. He creates an online writers group to explore his interest in creative writing. Little did he expect his writer’s group to change his life forever.

Doreen submits a request to become one of the group’s writers. Approving her membership, she and David share intimate and dark secrets, their relationship blossoming through the words and actions of their characters. When Doreen reveals her darkest desires to be owned by a Master who is harsh and cruel, David accepts her online submission. The next day, Doreen leaves the relationship unexpectedly.

For weeks, Doreen sends David emails begging him to take her back. To come rescue her from her life as it is and take her as his real life sex slave. Disillusioned and hurt, David refuses to be drawn into her lies until she finally states she loves him and has made a mistake. She gives him her itinerary for a specific day. Convinced she is sincere, David puts his plan into action.

While I’m not a big fan of narration, Mr. Cloud’s narrative voice throughout the book places you inside the head of the hero as if you are looking through his eyes. He has written a novel that reveals not only the love and deeply emotional ties of a BDSM relationship, but also the pitfalls of what can happen when online fantasies become real life. The characters are vibrant and real, and Mr. Cloud’s depictions of BDSM relationships, while on the semi-extreme side in a couple of situations, are accurate and believable.
